360 Pain Academy:

Our Mission

My name is Dr. Jonathan Chu.

I am a board-certified specialist in Interventional Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R).

If you are here reading this—you are likely in the midst of experiencing life-altering pain…

Pain that is robbing the enjoyment from your life, and keeping you from doing the things you love.

I understand what you are going through better than most.

Maybe you feel scared…

Maybe you feel frustrated…

Maybe you feel confused by all the information thrown at you by doctors and what you’ve read online…

Maybe you feel overwhelmed…uncertain of how to move forward…

I understand because I’ve been through it myself.

When I was in college, I developed painful cervical and lumbar radiculopathy (pinched nerves in the neck and lower back). I had previously been perfectly healthy—and I was absolutely bewildered by the sudden and shooting pains in my extremities.

Pain that didn’t get better, even over weeks…and then months…

It was the first time I had ever dealt with a serious health issue, and I had no idea what to do, or how to get better.

At first, it didn’t help that I was far from a model patient…

I didn’t take the physical therapy or home exercises seriously in the least.

I half-heartedly went through the motions, and then was frustrated by my lack of progress.

I wondered why there wasn’t a quick “fix” for my problem.

Things didn’t begin to improve for me until I changed my mindset, and began to take responsibility for my own health.

I began to learn everything I could about my condition.

I began to dedicate myself fully to the proper exercises.

Then…slowly…I began to see progress.

With steady and effort and discipline over the course of months, I was able to completely recover, bringing all of my pain symptoms under control. To this very day, I still do dedicated exercises for my neck and low back about three times a week.

This experience sparked a passion in me…

I wanted to develop a deep understanding about pain, the spine, and the musculoskeletal system.

I wanted to become an expert and help others.

I entered medical school shortly afterwards. Pursuit of my goal led me on to residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and then later to fellowship training in Interventional Pain Medicine. I had the privilege to train at some of the finest medical centers in the world and learn from several renowned leaders in the field.

I went on to practice Interventional Pain Medicine and PM&R for several years, and it was my privilege to care for thousands of wonderful patients in the Central Pennsylvania area, and did my best to provide each and every one of them with top-notch care.

However, I did have some major frustrations with the modern medical system.

One of them is that physicians are being given less and less time to spend with their patients.

And this leads to my second frustration…

Due to this time limitation, physicians rarely have an opportunity to adequately teach their patients about their conditions, treatments, and ways they can help themselves…though this may be one of the most rewarding aspects of medicine.

The modern medical system focuses on putting out fires, mainly due to the increasing limitations on time and resources.

However, I believe that optimal health requires a proactive approach rather than a reactive approach.

I believe in empowering you, the patient, with the knowledge you need to achieve wellness.

This is why I created 360 Pain Academy.

It is a comprehensive online resource for you to learn everything about your pain and the steps you can take to get better.

Today, patient-friendly information can be hard to find on the internet.

Many popular health sites do not feature content written by physicians. In fact, many of these articles are superficial and lack the valuable insight of real clinical experience.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the information featured in the primary medical literature is far too daunting and inaccessible to the vast majority of people.

360 Pain Academy provides you with a resource that is trustworthy and reliable—with content created exclusively by experts—yet is also accessible and engaging.

We provide content that encompasses every aspect of your pain:

We will help you understand your conditions.

We will explain the various interventional procedures that may be options for you.

We will teach you the exercises and stretches that will help you rebuild your strength, mobility, and function.

We will help you understand your medications.

We will teach you the mindset to persevere through these immense challenges and ultimately triumph over your pain.

Thank you so much for visiting 360 Pain Academy.

My team and I are tremendously passionate about making this resource the absolute best it can be, doing everything we can to guide you on your journey to a pain-free life.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Chu, MD
